5" Freestyle
Here you'll find links to the best performing products for 5" freestyle drones based on my testing over on AOS Labs and my own experience and research. Some of these links are affiliate links (affiliate policy).
Motors
AOS Supernova 2207
More torque, more power, and better efficiency. The Supernova is the first 5" Motor optimised using over 20,000 electromagnetic finite element simulations built on data from real world testing of 50+ 5" motors. This is the new performance benchmark for 5" FPV and is a step ahead of anything that has come before. Designed by AOS and built by RCinPower.
EMAX ECO II 2004 2000KV 6S
Great performance and efficiency for 4" or 5" Ultralight drones that also offers great value for money. Slightly heavier than the competition and uses multicore windings.
EMAX ECO II 2207 Motor
These motors have strong N52 magnets and solid build quality at an attractive price point. While you can find motors for less money they are rarely worth buying.
Flyfish Flash 2004 1800KV 6S
A well made motor that also delivers good performance at a very light weight of just 16.3g.
Flyfish Flash 2207 2005KV
The best all around performer of the Flyfish Flash Series. A good budget motor that is well built. Performance is solid for the price but doesn't quite reach the top tier of performance.
RCINPOWER GTS V2 2207 Plus Motor - 1860KV/2500KV/2750KV
RCinPower make excellent quality motors. These have a unibell design, use strong N52 magnets and hold a tight air gap.

Slightly lighter than the EMAX ECO II and with a slightly lower KV that offers excellent performance and build quality.
RCinPower Smoox 2306 Plus 1350KV/1880KV/2280KV/2580KV
RCinPower make excellent quality motors and regularly test amongst the best available. This Smoox 2306 Plus has a unibell design, use strong N52 magnets and hold a very tight air gap.
RCinPower Wasp Major 22.6-6.5 1860KV
One of the very best performing 5" Motors available right now in my testing. With strong performance in every category RCinPower have delivered an exceptional motor. Perfect for a high performance 5" freestyle or racing build. 1860KV is a more moderate KV option which will be kinder on your battery.
RCinPower Wasp Major 22.6-6.5 2020KV
One of the very best performing 5" Motors available right now in my testing. With strong performance in every category RCinPower have delivered an exceptional motor. Perfect for a high performance 5" freestyle or racing build. 2020 KV provides the maximum possible performance but will draw more current from your battery.
T-Motor PACER V3 P2207 Powerful Freestyle Motor -1750KV/ 1950KV/ 2080KV/ 2550KV
A more premium offering from T-Motor these motors are available in a wide range of KV to match your preferred prop. I'd take 1750KV for a typical 5x4.3x3 on 6S.
T-Motor VELOX VELOCE V2207.5 V2 Motor - 1750KV/1950KV/2550KV (Royal Blue)
N52 magnets, titanium shaft and manufactured by T-Motor. If that wasn't enough these are also seriously good looking motors.
Electronics Stack
BrainFPV Radix 2 H7 Flight Controller - Analog
One of very few flight controllers that natively supports up to 8S input voltage and is designed for use with up to 12S batteries (with external voltage regulator) the Radix 2 H7 Analog is ideal for larger analog drones and supports X8 motors. It uses the BMI270 gyro (probably the most reliable IMU available today) and has two switchable camera inputs, a custom graphical OSD chip, as well as support for I2C and CAN sensors. Made in the USA, NDAA compliant.
DYS F7 Stack - F722 FC + 65A 2-8S AM_32 4-in-1 ESC - ICM42688P - 30x30
This is a great value stack from DYS that runs AM32 and supports up to 8S battery voltage. A 12V/3A BEC can be used to power VTXs that don't support 8S. This is a really impressive stack for the price.
T-Motor F55A PRO III 55A 3-8S BLHeli_32 4-in-1 ESC - 30x30
Funny story, T-Motor released this as a 6S ESC. Turns out it was so overengineered it supports 8S no problem! Now, T-Motor are marketing it as an 8S ESC. This a great option for up to 8" drones on 8S. Requires a flight controller that can handle 8S input voltage.
BrainFPV Radix 2 H7 Flight Controller - HD
One of very few flight controllers that natively supports up to 8S input voltage and is designed for use with up to 12S batteries (with external voltage regulator) the Radix 2 H7 HD is ideal for larger digital drones and supports X8 motors. It uses the BMI270 gyro (probably the most reliable IMU available today) and has an SD card for logging/debug as well as support for I2C and CAN sensors. Made in the USA, NDAA compliant.
T-Motor Velox F7 SE 50A Stack
An F7 flight controller with Bluetooth connectivity, plugs for everything as well as pads for direct soldering and 8 motor outputs. The ESC is rated for 50A and runs BLHeli_32. And it's made by T-motor so the quality should be good. Great value at $90 USD.
SpeedyBee F405 Mini Stack - F405 V3 FC + 35A 3-6S BLHeli_S 4-in-1 ESC - 20x20
A great 20 x 20 mm budget electronics stack. The 35A rating will be suitable for most 5" builds UNLESS you are using the most powerful 2207 motors available (e.g. AOS Supernova). Don't let anyone tell you an F4 + 35A BLHeli_S is not enough to have an amazing FPV experience!
Skystars Fly Stack - F722 Mini HD Pro FC + KM55 55A AM_32 3-6S 4-in-1 ESC - 20x20
This is the dark horse of 20 x 20 mini stacks with a very special secret. F7 processor and 55A AM_32 ESC. AM_32 outperforms BLHeli_32 on my test stand and depite my best efforts torture testing motors I have been unable to kill this thing. For a high power 5" quad I wouldn't buy anything else today.
T-Motor Mini F7 Stack + F45A 3-6S BLHeli_32 4-in-1 ESC
T-motor have a great reputation for quality and reliability. This F7 stack and 45A ESC is a safe and solid choice with all the functionality you could want on a flight controller.
Diatone Mamba Stack - MK4 F405 FC + 40A 3-6S BLHeli_S ESC - Mini 20x20
20mm FC and EC is the sweet spot for 5" quads in my opinion. Lighter and smaller than 30mm stacks but with ESC ratings more than sufficient for any 5" motor and prop combination. This stack from Diatone is great value. Make sure to flash BlueJay to the ESCs.
Skystars Fly Stack - H743 Dual Gyro HD FC + KM60 60A BLHeli_32 4-in-1 ESC - 30x30
An H7 processor is total overkill for flight controllers today. It has far more performance than Betaflight needs even running everything at an 8K loop rate. That said some pilots have their heart set on H7 and this offering from Skystars is a good value option with an ESC suitable for 7" drones.
T-Motor F7 Stack - F7 FC, F55A PRO II 3-6S 4-in-1 ESC Combo
T-motor have the best reputation for quality and durability in FPV. This is a fully featured F7 stack with a bulletproof 55A ESC. Overkill for 5" quads but 6-7" builds will benefit from the higher current rating.
SpeedyBee F405 Stack - F405 V3 FC + 50A 3-6s BLHeli_S 4-in-1 ESC - 30x30
30mm FC and ESC stacks are perfect for larger drones with >5" props where high current rated ESCs are required. This stack from Speedybee offers great value for money. Make sure to flash BlueJay firmware to the ESC.
NewBeeDrone (N. America)
VTX
iFlight Blitz 1.6W VTX
1.6W of output power in a compact package makes this analog VTX suitable for 5"+ drones. At maximum output you can get excellent range with a quality omnidirectional antenna on the drone and high gain antennas on goggles/ground station
Avatar GT VTX
The Avatar GT VTX delivers a ridiculous 2W of EIRP output power across 2 antennas. This is the most powerful Avatar VTX to date and is perfect if you're looking to fly long range or need a VTX with the power to punch through obstructions to give you clear video.
Walksnail Moonlight Kit 4K Avatar VTX Kit
The top of the line Walksnail Avatar VTX. Onboard 4k60 recording and 1080p60 or 720p100 video in the goggles. The image quality is not as good as DJI O3 but the price is much more reasonable and this camera does better in low light.
HDZero Race V3 VTX
If you're a racer then HDZero is the HD system for you and this VTX is designed for 3" and 5" racing quads. Make sure to use a flight controller with at least a 5V 1.5A / 9V 1A /12V 1A BEC. This VTX cannot be powered from battery voltages above 2S.
Foxeer HDZero Race VTX
Foxeer made a HDZero Race VTX! I actually prefer the specs of this VTX to the HDZero one because it can be powered from up to 6S LiPo voltage! Everything else is the same as the HDZero Race V3.
HDZero Freestyle V2 VTX
True 1W output power for the HDZero system just got better. The smaller 30x30x14 mm form factor and 20mm M2 mounting pattern make this VTX perfect for 3" - 5" Freestyle drones and pilots who want the lowest possible latency of any FPV system available today. De-cased the VTX can be used on Lightweight 3" builds.
Avatar V2 VTX
The full size Avatar V2 VTX comes in two versions: 8GB and 32GB of onboard storage. You can also choose between the Standard camera (best for daytime flying) or the Pro camera (best for lowlight flying). With better image quality and features than the Caddx Vista at a lower price, this is a solid recommendation.
Walksnail Avatar 1S VTX
A smaller and lighter version of the Avatar VTX. There is a version with the standard Nano camera and a LITE version with an even lighter board and camera. It only works up to 5V though so you'll need a 5V 2A BEC if you're running 2S batteries!
Rush Tank Ultimate Plus 5.8GHz VTX
A solid choice for Analog with a high transmit power and good reputation for reliability.
DJI O3
The DJI O3 system pushes digital FPV in a new direction. Here the focus is onboard recording and image quality at the expense of latency. It is a great looking system, some pilots are reporting issues with vibration sensitivity of the IMU used for electronic image stabilisation, hopefully this will be resolved in a future firmware update.
Caddx Vista Nebula Pro Kit
The Caddx vista is a great option for DJI pilots who prefer to record their HD footage on a Go Pro.
Receiver
ES900 DUAL RX ELRS Diversity Receiver
If you're flying Long Range alone or with only a couple of others 900MHz ELRS provides the ultimate in range and penetration. This true diversity (not just antenna diversity) receiver from Happymodel gives you two antennas and two opportunities to receive each packet sent from the radio. Two opportunities means half the chance the quad falls out of the sky!
RadioMaster RP4TD ELRS 2.4G True Diversity Receiver
Radiomaster is a reliable manufacturer of ELRS equipment and this true diversity 2.4GHz receiver (not just 2 antennas but two full receivers working together) is a great choice when you're looking for a very strong and reliable link over medium to long range.
MATEKSYS ExpressLRS 2.4GHz Receiver - ELRS R24 TD
I've made my mind up. I'm only recommending ELRS moving forward. At this point it does everything better than any other radio link. LoRa for range and penetration, yes. 1000Hz update rate for crazy low latency, yes. Loads of manufacturers are making receivers for ELRS and I think this diversity offering from Matek (antenna diversity only) is certainly among the best performing and most reliable.
Happymodel ExpressLRS Nano 2.4GHz EP1 RX
Happymodel were the first to bring out ELRS hardware and their EP1 and EP2 receivers closely follow the developers reference design and are incredibly tiny. I lean towards the EP1 as the UFL antenna is much higher performing than the ceramic antenna on the EP2.
Props
DALProp/Foxeer Donut 5145
A prop like no other! I prefer traditional props as they produce more thrust and are more efficient. However, toroidal props have a different, less obtrusive, sound and look like they come from the future.
HQProp 5.1X2.5X3 3-Blade Propeller (Set of 4)
When you value the smoothest footage over top end thrust and power these are the props for you. Incredibly low vibration and a shallow pitch reduces prop wash to nearly zero.
HQ R38
For racing responsiveness, thrust and efficiency are key. The R38 offers similar or even more thrust to the R42 at higher efficiency so is my pick.
HQ 5x4.3x3 V1S
I've tested virtually every 5" prop out there and these were the best all rounders. They really stand out for excellent vibration performance and top end thrust while being lightweight and responsive.
Gemfan LR5126 2-Blade Propeller (Set of 4)
These props support both T-mount and standard 5mm prop nuts. Most 2004 size motors use T-mounting but if you have one that has a standard 5mm prop nut then these are the 5" biblade props to use.
HQProp Durable T5x3
This is an exceptionally efficient T-mount 5" prop, it's well matched to 2004/2104 size motors and perfect for 5" long range or 5" toothpick quads.
Batteries
Bonka U2 1380mAh Ultralight Racing Battery
Difficult to find in retailers right now. This has all the hallmarks of a Halo product made from the very best cells available (similar to a top binned CPU/GPU). Incredible performance but it remains to be seen whether Bonka are able to make lots of these!
Ovonic Rebel 2.0 6S 1400mAh 22.2V 150 C Lipo Battery with XT60 Plug
This pack is at the top of the Ovonic Range. It lives up to it's rating providing enormous power and great energy density. Hard to find right now but a great performing pack.
DOGCOM MCK 1380mAh 160C
A larger pack with excellent burst performance and good energy density but a little on the heavier side. DOGCOM have good results in my testing so this is another solid option from them.
GNB 1300mAh 120C LiHv
These are High Volt packs that charge to 4.35V/cell. They have the best energy density for long flight times and deliver decent burst performance and minimal voltage sag.
TheFPV 1100mAh 120C
TheFPV are the house brand of Unmanned Tech in the UK. These batteries have no right being this good for the price.
Tattu R-Line Version 5.0 1200mAh 6S1P 150C LiPo Battery
Where battery performance is critical Tattu R-Line packs have a good reputation for delivering more power at a lighter weight. You pay a little more for the extra performance.
CNHL Black Series 100C 6S LiPo Battery - 1100mAh
For high performance 5" I would recommend 6S batteries. CNHL make these decent quality batteries at a good price.
